The Cascade Crest 100 mile Endurance Run
Like I said in the last post, Will did another 100 mile adventure race and I was able to be there again. I've loved watching him do this. He's really amazing covering at least 100 miles over a day and a night.
The race started Saturday
at 10am PDT and followed trails on a big 100 mile clockwise loop around the
crest of the Cascade mountains. The trail climbs and descends 21,500 vertical
feet over the course of the 100 miles. Will said, "If all goes well I hope to finish
sometime between 2pm-4pm on Sunday afternoon".
This one was real close to his home so we spent the night before right there. I don't know how much sleep he got the night because he was taking great care to make sure Jenni and I didn't get lost as we tried to meet up with him at different stations during the race.
There was a lot of excitment at the starting line and Will waited slightly so the boys could jog with him a little before sending them back.
James, Elizabeth, Gwenevere and Gracie were with us to help send him on his way.
The race started at a fire station right next to the railroad tracks and we were there to watch the train go by. That was an added bonus for the boys.
We tried to meet up with Will at every check point we could.
Look at that smile!!
"There's my dad!!"
"Here, let me help you, Dad."
"Come this way now."
While Will ate snacks from his backpack, the rest of us headed to the restaurant for some dinner.
After dinner it was getting dark so we met Will one more time before heading back to the house for a good night sleep.
By this time he had only 4 miles left to go and we were so excited to see him again.
We waited somewhat patiently and then Preston and I decided to hike up the trail and cheer him on as he descended his final mountain.
There he was coming down fast. He mentioned that his feet hurt and he was anxious to finish off the last four miles. He was ahead of his goal time and doing well. Still smiling!
Once he was down the mountain, he was gone again. He must of really reved up because he almost beat us to the finish line.

I loved seeing all of these photos that I hadn't seen before. Fun times! So glad you could come and support Will - I know he appreciated it.
