Enduring

Many scriptures speak of enduring and sometimes I wonder what it means to "endure." I used to look at the wonderful widows in the Thomas 4th Ward and think it meant attending church even after your spouse has pasted on. Regardless, it usually meant something in the future. However, this winter I've seen it differently. Just outside our doors are pots of marigolds. We buy them in the early summer and put them on family gravesites for Memorial Day. We've had the habit of gathering them after a week and repotting them around the house. It's such a reminder of those who have passed before that I love watching the flowers continue to grow.
Usually as the winter weather comes on, the flowers freeze in the cold and I have to remove them from the pots.
This year, even through the freeze spells, some of the marigolds have "endured" the cold and continue to bring a smile to my face.

I will try to remember these sweet flowers when I am called on to "endure."

Sometimes "enduring" is just doing what we would rather not.
